United Arab Emirates – Measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus

25 März, 2020

The designated operator of the United Arab Emirates, Emirates Post, asks us to inform other Union member countries and their designated operators that the United Arab Emirates Government has declared a state of alert in order to reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19.

This state of alert applies to the entire UAE territory and comprises a number of extraordinary measures, in force at least until 2 April 2020. In line with government directives, Emirates Post is required to take strict ad hoc measures aimed at minimizing human contact, during both sorting and delivery. These are likely to have an impact on operations and, consequently, on quality of service for all types of inbound and outbound mail (letter post, parcels and EMS), at least until 2 April 2020. For this reason, service delivery standards cannot currently be guaranteed.

Emirates Post, as a major employer and a key element in the country’s economy, is fully committed to playing its part in helping the UAE overcome this potential challenge. It has already been working for a number of weeks, in close contact with the relevant institutional bodies, to define and continuously adapt its operations and services in compliance with government-mandated measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Although Emirates Post is fully committed to keeping its international mail processing centres, domestic sorting centres and delivery network open and operational, a number of special provisions are being implemented in the wider national interest, in order to protect employees, citizens and customers.

While airports remain open, passenger flights to and from the UAE have been suspended. The delivery of international mail will be subject to potential delays until the situation returns to normal. As a result, Emirates Post is unable to offer various services at the moment.

Emirates Post is, of course, constantly monitoring the situation and will take prompt corrective action in response to new developments. The provisions set out above will remain in effect until further notice.

Emirates Post thanks all Union member countries and their designated operators for their understanding; it will provide timely updates on any relevant changes via EmIS.
