Spain – Extension of state of alert

09 Juni, 2020

The designated operator of Spain, Correos y Telégrafos, asks us to inform other Union member countries and their designated operators that the Spanish Government has extended the state of alert until 21 June 2020. This is to be the final such extension.

This will continue to have a major impact on operations. Consequently, until further notice, Correos y Telégrafos remains unable to guarantee quality of service for all types of inbound and outbound mail (letter-post, parcel-post and EMS items) and compliance with delivery standards for items requiring signature, as defined by the UPU Regulations and bilateral or multilateral agreements signed with other designated postal operators.

Moreover, as notified previously, given the sharp increase in road transportation and the operational conditions imposed by the COVID-19 crisis, the Madrid-Barajas OE is not able to unload trucks arriving with bulky and non-palletized loads. Therefore, as from 1 June 2020, trucks loaded in this way will not be accepted.

In parallel, Correos y Telégrafos is working on a de-escalation plan in order to gradually resume normal operations over the coming weeks.

Correos thanks all Union member countries and their designated operators for their understanding.
