Madagascar – Measures to limit the spread of COVID-19

11 April, 2020

The designated operator of Madagascar, Paositra Malagasy, asks us to inform other Union member countries and their designated operators that, in order to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus, the Government of Madagascar has extended the state of emergency in the country until 19 April 2020.

All measures already taken by the government have been reinforced. These include the suspension of all passenger flights, strict limitation of personal movements, and prohibition of all forms of public transport, in order to minimize person-to-person contacts.

Post offices are continuing to operate with a minimum level of service only. Mail deliveries (letter-post, parcel-post and EMS items) are taking place, but with delays.

Under these circumstances, Paositra Malagasy will not be able to guarantee quality of service for inbound and outbound mail (letter-post, parcel-post and EMS items), and in particular, standards for export and delivery of EMS items.

Paositra Malagasy thanks all Union member countries and their designated operators for their understanding, and will provide timely updates on any relevant changes via EmIS.
