The designated operator of the British Virgin Islands, BVI Post, wishes to inform other Union member countries and their designated operators that the Government of the Virgin Islands has declared a mandatory lockdown of the country, effective from 22 March, in order to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). During this lockdown, the borders will be closed and no passenger aircrafts or ferries will be able to enter or leave the Virgin Islands.
In an effort to adhere to social distancing guidelines and for the protection of employees, the Government of the Virgin Islands and BVI Post have had to suspend postal services (letter-post, parcel-post and EMS items) throughout the mail supply chain.
As a result of this suspension, BVI Post is
unable to meet stipulated delivery standards. It is therefore declaring a
situation of force majeure with regard to letter-post and parcel-post items, it
being noted that the suspension of Pay-for-Performance penalties has been
unanimously agreed by the EMS Cooperative.
BVI Post wishes to thank all Union member countries and their designated operators for their understanding
